CROCHET WORKSHOP 1

This morning a merry group of eager pupils gathered for the first of our Learn-to-Crochet Workshops and we were soon down to work with expert instructions from the very capable Tineka.

It wasn't long before there were cries of "Help" from all over the room and she was kept extremely busy giving lots of individual help and encouragement.

Scattered around the room were other capable helpers

Jocelyn retired to the background to KNIT !!

Some of us achieved very creditable results.....

and some of us had a little bit of trouble !!

We were sent off with homework.
Here are some examples of what we hope to be able to achieve by the end of the next workshop !!

Next workshop 22nd July. There is a $7 fee to cover hire of the hall.
Contact Helen E or Jocelyn for more information.

PS. Thanks Tineka and all her helpers

ATTENTION MATERIAL GIRLS

Material Girls Program for the remainder of 2010

July:
Bag display – bring along any handmade bags you have for a show and tell discussion to give us some inspiration for the Piecemakers’ Competition which will be held at this year’s Conference in October. The requirements for the competition are “any bag using black and white and one other colour” so there is plenty of scope for bags to suit all purposes.
August:
Charity Challenge
This year’s activity will be making wheelchair bags. Instructions and material will be available. We hope it will be all hands on deck to help us make as many wheelchair bags as possible on the day. As many sewing machines as possible are needed as well as cutters and pinners and ironers.
September:
Christmas Project
Trish has two projects to display. Anyone else who has a project to share please bring it along. If you choose to do one of these projects for Christmas you will be able to find out what you need to bring along to next month’s Craft Day where you can rely on quality help and advice to get it done.
October:
Christmas Project
Instructions and help to get you on your way with a Christmas project.

* need to discuss Christmas Break-up for our group – suggestion - Picnic in the Park , everyone bring a plate to share
Any suggestions on this topic would be appreciated. Think about it we have plenty of time to decide what, when and where!

Sample Quilt – time to work on this project
Wheelchair Bags – time to finish these

Domestic Violence Memorial Quilt

The memorial quilt made by some members of our Material Girls was unveiled at a moving candle light ceremony earlier in the year.
The twilight ceremony was held in the area above the Kangaroo Point Cliffs.

The moving slogan " Not One More " is a message we all heartily support.
Several members were present for the unveiling of the quilt.

The quilt will now be sent to Canberra where it will join other quilts from other states for a National Memorial Exhibition to raise awareness of Domestic Violence in the wider community.

Well done to all those who were involved in making the quilt.

 You've done us proud.

A GREAT START TO JUNE

We started June with a very well attended Social Day on the first Thursday of the month.

Robyn has been working hard for a year to increase the number of members who enter the QCWA Photography Competition and the Social Day was the designated day for the branch competition.

 What a terrific response!

Fantastic photos and heaps of them soon adorned the walls of the hall .

Joan's husband Rob kindly took on the difficult task of Judge for the day.

Many thanks Rob for helping us out and doing such a great job.

While Rob was busy judging the Photography Competition the rest of the ladies got on with the social part of the day ......

sewing,

knitting,

playing mahjong,

researching the history of the area and  playing  bridge,

before finishing a pleasant morning with a lovely home cooked morning tea!
