Rugs galore

Cuddly bears

Some works in progress

and lots of finishes.

Then came the Christmas project that Trish, Liz and Val were teaching us.
Some finished....

Then it was time for Show and Tell.

A great end to a very productive year.

FINAL SOCIAL DAY and COOKING COMPETITION

Where has the year gone?

Last Thursday was the last Social Day of the year and also the day of the branch Cooking Competition.

Everyone was there early, settling into their preferred group activity.

The entries in the Cooking Competition were submitted to the Judge's scrutiny ....

carried out very capably by Eunice. She had quite an audience while she explained the technicalities.

The entries looked fanntastic!

There were cakes of all types

and shortbread too.

The fun part was the Iced Cup Cake section
where the Christmas theme drew many entries.

Somw very clever ones....

... and the winner of this year's trophy ......

........................
...........

TA DAH !!!

Very clever indeed !!

Later in the day Christine recounted the presentation of the quilt to Marian Mudra as a retirement gift.
This quilt is made up of flower blocks from all over the state.

It was presented at the recent Conference and very gratefully received by Marian.
It is an absolute work of art.

One of our members, Linda, who is an absolute whiz at quilting did a huge amount of the  preparation and final finishing ....

and our contribution was this ribbon embroidery creation by Ellen who is rapidly earning a wonderful reputation for her beautiful handwork.

SHIRLEY MEETS THE QUEEN

Here's a photo of Shirley all dressed up to meet the Queen.

Doesn't she look fantastic?

And in her own words......

"To have been chosen to represent QCWA at the Premier's function to meet Her Majesty the Queen was one of the most exciting and humble moments of my life.  After the initial shock of the phone call, all I could think about was, what should I wear ?  I eventually came up with what I considered to be an appropriate outfit.  I have a good friend who lent me her stunning pearls, and they certainly added to the tone of my outfit.

The day was like no other.

I was lucky enough to have been on the side of the room that Her Majesty was working.  The other side had His Royal Highness.  The Queen is still a very well preserved lady with a beautiful smile.  She has the most amazing skin for someone who is 85 years old.
I shook her hand and did a small curtsey, all without incident !

The Queen was only in front of me for perhaps 10 to 15 seconds, but this memory will stay with me forever.  Queen Elizabeth was crowned in the year I was born, so she has been my Queen all my life.

I wish you could have all been with me for this wonderful occasion."

Well done , Shirley.
You 've done us proud!

OCTOBER SOCIAL DAY

The Knitwits were there doing what they do best .

Crochet flowers were the lesson of the day.

These cleverly knitted beaded dresses impressed us all.

Some of the  Material Girls were still hard at work at their tablerunners.

and some were finished !!

Here's a clever new use for those Yo-yos for Christmas!

and a pretty Christmas tablerunner.

Trish has made some more quilts for Project Love and Care.

Her contribution to this cause has been terrific.

Finally, another finished project from our Convergance workshop with Ione.

OCTOBER SOCIAL DAY

1. Floral Art Competition

Spring was  very evident in all of the lovely flowers exhibited on Thursday.

Judy was busy taking entries to the many different classes in this year's friendly competition.....

and there were plenty of entries.

Single blooms....

in little vases.....

were very plentiful.

There was a class for minature gardens too.

There was even a class for floral plates.

The sales table had great plants at bargain prices.

The winners were very happy with their certificates...

Some were even surprised when they won!

Many thanks to our wonderful judge.
She comes back every year !

2.  Badge Ceremony

Geraldine finally received her badge !

3. Cheque Presentation

Margaret presented a cheque to a representative from Kim's Choices.
This money was raised at a fantastic Morning Tea to support Kim's Choices, a wonderful organisation that helps women suffering from cancer.

As well as all these activities there was the usual chatter and laughter, sewing, mahjong etc all helped along by the usual scrumptuous morning tea.
