THANKS BRISBANE GIRLS GRAMMAR

Brisbane Girls Grammar School is just across the road from Ruth Fairfax House.
When they heard that QCWA was organising a collection of linen for the victims of the recent devestating Queensland floods they wanted to help.

FLOOD RELIEF FUNDRAISER

Here are some photos from the morning tea at historic "Garowie", Ipswich on 30th March.

"Garowie" was completed in 1888 and has had a varied history from family home to flats during the wartime housing shortage.

It is now owned by the Frank family who very kindly let us roam through its many rooms crammed with the most wonderful antiques.

About 50 ladies admired the historic house and munched their way through a scrumptions afternoon tea provided by the Spice Girls.

A great time was had by all.

CAN YOU HELP ?

Recently I finally delivered 30 wheelchair bags to the Young Care facility at Jindalee.
They were greeted with delight as many residents' bags were beginning to look shabby.

When I asked if they had any pressing needs that we could help with, they nearly knocked me over in their eagerness to reply!!!

It seems they are desperate for " clothing protectors".
When they opened the cupboard to show me what these were there were only three left in the cupboard !
Here is an example.

It is really an adult sized bib. The backing is towelling and the front was once a pretty cotton.
This one was given to me to use as a pattern.

I searched around a bit looking for a suitable backing and finally bought a thin towel at Crazy Clarke's for $3 !
From this I was able to cut two backings.
This morning I whipped one up without too much trouble ( and you know I am really not a sewer!! ).

21 inches across the bottom

13 inches across at the neck

32 inches long

12 inches from top to neck

The ladies assured me that they did not need fasteners at the neck but a velcro dot would not go astray there just in case.

So there you have it.
I will have  patterns cut for anyone who needs them when we next meet but I thought if I put it out there now some of you might be able to whip up one or two as the need seems to be quite pressing though I did not make any promises.

Cheers
Helen E

MARCH CRAFT DAY

We began our March Craft day with a display and short presentation by Anne George who is the founder of Project Love and Care.

Anne told us the history of this organisation and showed us a range of the type of goods that they collect and distribute.
As a group we have decided to direct some of our quilt making efforts to making quilts for the children that Project Love and Care helps. A huge amount of donated material was then put out for people to use in these quilts. It will be so interesting to see the huge range of diverse designs that come from this selection and it gives many of us a chance to design and make something small which will be very much appreciated by the future recipients.

Later in the day our usual Show and Tell showcased some lovely work by our clever members.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S LUNCHEON

Our annual International Women's Luncheon was held on 24th March.
Once again Anne took on the job of MC at which  she is so capable.

Cool drinks were available on arrival.

and it wasn't long before the happy sounds of friends meeting filled the hall.

You always have a good time at our functions!!

Guests from outside our branch were given a friendly welcome too.

Our guest speaker Helen Couglan was very well received.....

and kindly helped draw the raffle.

The day was voted a great success.
